Below are examples of some of the different types of  fire safety and fire detection products we use.

Ampac Photo Optical Smoke Detector
Picture
Product details
The Photo Optical Smoke Detector is an addressable fire detector. The Detector uses a pulsing LED in conjunction with a photo-diode. In normal clear air, the photo-diode does not receive any light from the pulsing LED. When smoke enters the chamber it scatters photons from the LED onto the photo-diode.

Product benefits
This detector is an addressable device, which means that  it has it's own unique address. In the event of a fire, the exact location is given by the device address which is shown on the Fire Panel. This detector provides the best protection for slow burning or smouldering fires, and continuously monitors the environment for contamination of clean air by smoke particles.

Ampac Thermal Detector

Product details
The Thermal Detector is addressable. Temperature is monitored by using a single thermistor, which provides a voltage output proportional to the external air temperature. The Detector signals an alarm back to the Fire Panel, when a heat sensitive eutectic alloy changes from a solid to a liquid.

Product benefits
Because this detector is an addressable device, it has its own unique address so in the event of a fire, the exact location is given by the device address, which is shown on the Fire Panel.  This detector provides the best protection in areas which are prone to dust, smoke and steam. Ampac have two thermal detectors: standard and high temperature. The standard detector will report an alarm at 55°C. The high temperature detector will report an alarm at 90°C.

Ampac Conventional Detector
Picture
Product details
These detectors detect smoke and heat just like their addressable counterparts. They are wired in parallel to the signalling path. In a conventional system, the information density is limited to the number of circuits used. LEDs on the Fire Panel indicate whether a particular circuit/zone has been activated.

Product benefits
Perfect for cost effective, small applications without requirement for extensive programming. Conventional fire alarms can be set up in zones.

Additional Information
The limitations of a conventional system include: the task of fault finding is a difficult and  lengthy process;  the Fire Panel is unable to identify the status of individual detectors; detectors cannot be programmed; the Fire Panel has no event history.

Break Glass

Product details
A Break Glass Alarm, also known as a Manual Call Point, is used to allow building occupants to acknowledge a fire, or an emergency, requiring evacuation. When acknowledged, the device sends a signal back to the Fire Panel alerting building occupants to evacuate and to dispatch emergency services.

Product benefits
This device is directly connected back to the Fire Panel. It houses a easily resettable element instead of the conventional break glass. A LED indicator has been installed to illuminate red when activated, and yellow to indicate a short circuit.

Fire Extinguishers
Picture
Product details
A fire extinguisher is a hand-held device which is filled with pressurised fire retardant. These extinguishers are used to extinguish or control small fires in the very early stages. It is essential that extinguishers are located centrally and easily accessible. The right type of extinguisher is to be used for the correct application. Extinguishers are typically filled with Dry Chemical, Nitrogen, Water or Foam to be used on various types of fires.

Product benefits
These are easy to use and portable. Some types can be used on a number of classification types such as ABE powder type.   Approved to AS/NZS 1841.5

Additional Information
Extinguishers must be checked and maintained on a 6-monthly basis. Extinguishers can be used for the various classes of fire:
  • Class A – Paper, Wood, Textiles
  • Class B – Flammable liquid fires
  • Class E – Energised electrical fires
  • Class F – Cooking oils and fats

Fire Hose Reel
Picture
Product details
A Fire Hose Reel is a unit attached to a building, (internally and/or externally) as the first line of attack against a fire. They are approximately 35 metres, pressurised, connected to the mains water supply and can be used by anyone to suppress a fire. This enables the hose to reach most areas of the building with an unlimited water source. Fire Hose Reels require regular maintenance to ensure they are in perfect working order in accordance with Australian Standard AS1851.

Product benefits
Fire Hose Reels are suitable for various classes of fires:
• Paper
• Textiles
• Wood
• Most Plastics and Rubber

Additional Information
Fire Hose Reels should never been used on electrical fires, as water conducts electricity. Use of water on electrical fires could result in electrocution.
